Timber SF65 Technical

Dimensions

Manufacturers recommend that panel widths do not exceed 1800mm, with a maximum height of 2800mm, based on a maximum weight of 200kg per panel. Contact our Technical Department for advice.

Profile

The Sunflex SF65 is strengthened and stabilised by a process of lamination. This is where the timber has been separated into three solid timber sections, these are bonded back together with opposing grains, achieving greater durability and is less susceptible to movement. The resulting strength of this process combined with the fibrous make up of timber ensures minimal framework and a lifetime of continued usage and reliability, in addition to the timbers superior thermal qualities.

Track options

The timber sliding patio door system is available as single track to multiple tracks and panels. Available with a standard weather track or depending on the type of external floor finish a flush track can be recessed into the ground to provide a level threshold. This provides a level walkthrough with an uninterrupted floor finish, compliant to Doc. M of the Building Regulations for disabled access.

In any exposed location we would always recommend the use of a weathered track which can be fully recessed below your internal floor level meaning that there is no threshold to step over, just a step down to the outside.  An external deck or paving can be brought up to the track on the outside giving a very minimal step down whilst maintaining a weather tight seal.

Security

Incorporating a full length aluminium reinforced interlock between panels, therefore makes it impossible to lever the panels from their tracks, the standard locking offers a very high level of security whilst providing quick, smooth and easy operation. It consists of a two-point top and bottom shoot bolt mechanism, which is incorporated into the framework and locked into position by a five-lever profile cylinder, meeting the requirements of the Association of British Insurers. For improved security all Sunflex systems are internally glazed as standard.

The shoot rods are manufactured of aluminium and linked by a corrosion-resistant cam. Additionally, they are capped with polyamide cones that prevent any damage to the track when locking.

Weather seals

The Weathered Track

A moderate weather rated system with rebated twin nylon brush piles separated by a fin seal, front and back to the top and bottom of the panel and a double rebated seal to the sides. This achieves DIN 18055, Category C performance for wind loading and water leakage.

The Flush Track

The bottom seal between the door and the flush track is via double, twin nylon brush piles separated by a twin fin seal, giving an effective seal. It is recommended that some form of a sunken drainage channel and a slope away from the doors be integrated, to avoid any pooling of water.

Operating systems

The system is bottom running, each sliding panel incorporates at least two separate running carriages with four wheels manufactured from tough polyamide, set around a maintenance-free sealed bearing, and giving a quiet, smooth operation with optimum resistance to extreme temperatures. Each wheel and guide mechanism can carry up to 200 kg.

The wheels of the running mechanism run in a channel in the sides of the track rather than sitting directly on the bottom, unike many inferior systems, minimising the risk of the operating system fouling should any dirt or debris be allowed to build up in the bottom of the track.

Appearance

The natural character of wood is perfectly preserved by using Sikkens micro-porous water based wood stains (i.e. they contain no harmful solvents) in a variety of stain colours. Alternatively, the timber can be opaque paint finished to any RAL colour with over 200 RAL colours available. One can even have different colours or woodstains inside and outside. As standard Sunflex timber door systems are fully finished which consists of one basecoat and two topcoats; other finishes are available upon request.

All handles are specially designed to complement the door system; standard colours are White RAL 9016, Black RAL 9011, Silver RAL 9006 or Standard Brown. Gaskets are available in White, Brown or Black, with hinges mounted within seal sightline available in White RAL 9016, Black RAL9011 or Standard Brown. Other RAL colours can be applied to the handles and hinges if required or alternatively there is a stainless steel handle option. A Marine environment finish, required to all systems within 5000m of a shoreline or chemical swimming pool environment, is also available.

Customised

Designs can be customised according to your preference - the options includes mid-rails, mullions, plant-on bars with dummy spacer grids, arched heads, timber fillets, deeper top and bottom profiles and solid in-fill panels, among many others.

Complete System

The SF65 system can also be utilised to manufacture single access doors, French doors, tilt and turn windows and fixed glazed screens. Also available is the folding door, Horizontal Sliding Wall (HSW) and the ‘Parallel Sliding Tilting’ door (PST). Using matching profile sections enables you to achieve an aesthetically uniform appearance throughout.

Glazing

The system is internally glazed and can accommodate glazing ranging from 4mm clear toughened glass up to a sealed unit of 38mm. Our standard 28mm unit comprises of 4mm clear toughened glass with Low ‘e’ to the inner pane x 20mm argon gas cavity x 4mm clear toughened glass to comply with building regulations for safety and thermal efficiency. All units are BS kite marked, manufactured to BS6206A and BS5713 standards.
