About Us Awards

Downlands Prize for Architects

IDSystems was privileged to accept the 'Downlands Prize for Architects'. The prize is awarded to the project that makes best use of architectural practice with minimal impact on its surrounding environment.

The 'Woodpecker House' project

The ‘Woodpecker House’ project enjoys a spectacular view over an RSPB sanctuary in Amberley, Sussex. The clients, Mr & Mrs B Weir, wanted to make the best of this view and employed Miller Samuel Architects. Their plan was to build a ‘glass box’ to the back end of the house making the most of the space available.

IDSystems was contacted to offer design possibilities for opening the sides of the glass box to give a ‘better feeling of space’ whilst maintaining the weather rating and security. Folding sliding doors were specified to two sides of the glass box, with a single access door and window in matching profile at the front to maintain an overall uniform look. This opened the room to the decking area and swimming pool and provided an adaptable area for entertaining and living.

Grand Designs

Our first appearance on the ever popular television show was for a self-build project was a true Grand Design. The requirement was for a two-storey ‘cube’ house, with one side consisting of an immense expanse of glass. IDSystems met the challenge and provided a 100% clear opening, with a flush walkway.

By extending the track, the sliding doors ‘disappeared’ as they stacked inside behind the adjacent wall when in the fully open position. The standard twin track slide system does not normally offer a flush threshold but, with our technical knowledge and accommodating internal and external floorings, we were able to deliver exactly to the customer’s specification. With the homeowners family expanding they needed a larger living area and extended their original design with an additional cube. IDSystems Grand Slider product was used again to match with the existing glazing and was featured on Grand Designs Revisited episode.

Following our success In our first Grand Designs appearance IDSystems were drafted in again to assist in one of the most original and quirky homes to be built on the show. You’ll probably remember the show as ‘the one with the sliding roof’. In this episode Monty Ravenscroft had purchased a slither of land between two existing properties in London and with a tight budget built one of the most unique properties everproduced in the show. IDSystems were used to install Folding Sliding Doors across the rear of the property opening the whole rear of the house to the garden offering a further extension to the living space.

IDSystems products have also been used and featured on Channel 4’s Property Ladder and Channel 5’s The Home Show.
